Umm. Ew. For Many Reasons…

You look really good for a disabled person!

Why

Why did you say that?

Oh you are just lazy and disability benefits are just a leech off the government 

Why did you say that?

People at Disney are taking advantage of the Disney access pass

Why did you say that?

An who is saying that

Because around 70% of disabilities are invisible 

So who are you to judge how disabled someone is just by looking at them.

It’s almost as if we are trained by some higher power to say these things

And you don’t understand the struggle of that until you get bitch slapped by the true reality of being a disabled person in the world that we live in.

We learn these ideas from the adults that raised us

As they were fed the same lies by the exact government that they put so much faith into.

We live in such a self centered world where we are supposed to thrive in communities.

We do not think of others unless we love them and understand the struggle

We look at barriers that are in front of others and instead of holding the door and giving them time to pass through

We rush them as if that same kind act is a burden.

Why would we say that?

Because behaviors are learned

But it takes true strength and dedication 

To deprogram them 

We must keep close to each other and offer compassion. We must offer them grace and refrain from criticism 

We must love each other 

And we must keep asking 

Why would you say that

To hold each other accountable to be more compassionate and kind members of the community
